Fostering

We are always looking for foster carers to take our dogs or cats from the shelter, and offer them a temporary home while we look for their new forever home. We look for a foster home if an animal is:

  • Not coping well in a kennel or cattery environment.
  • Recovering from an operation.
  • Have health issues exasperated in a kennel or cattery environment.
  • Too old or too young to be at the shelter.
  • Pregnant or nursing.

Fostering for WARS doesn’t require a vast amount of experience with animals. However, you must be realistic and able to offer the time and care required.

Foster Carer Qualities

WARS foster carers provide a short term home for kittens and puppies that are too young for adoption, animals that are recovering from illness or injury, as well as elderly animals that await their forever homes. The qualities we expect and look for in a potential foster carer are:

  • An animal lover.
  • Empathetic to all animals.
  • Understanding and patience.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Dedicated to offering the best care for our animals.

All foster carers are given basic training and relevant information about an animal, including their behavioural assessment and any training plans. We will also provide care supplies such as bowls, beds, collars, leads and food. WARS staff will always be on hand throughout a fostering term, to offer advice if required.
