Adoption Process

1. WARS operates a non-view shelter in order to make things as relaxed and stress free as possible for the rehoming of our animals.

2. IMPORTANT! If you are looking to move house, change your working hours within the next 6 months, or planning to have a new baby in the coming year, please consider that now might not be right time to adopt a dog or cat.

3. View the dogs and cats currently available for adoption, online, and express an interest via the relevant application form. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit the shelter to discuss your interest, while remembering our non-view policy.

4. All our animals will have an online profile, explaining the reason they came to the shelter, and the type of home they’re searching for. This information is important, so please read it carefully. We take pride in our match making, and want to find you the perfect companion, to suit your lifestyle and requirements.

Application Forms

If you would like to register your interest in one of our available animals, please download and complete the relevant interested parties form.

Email the completed form to: info@wars.org.uk

5. You will need to complete and submit an application form to us. A member of our team will then be in touch within 48 hours, to go through your application and answer any questions you may have. You will be given further information about your animal of interest, and if you’re a suitable match we will arrange for you to meet your chosen dog or cat at the shelter.

Dog Rehoming Process

1. Expect a minimum of three meets at the shelter. Depending on your chosen dog, your third meeting may be your adoption date.

2. If you’re adopting a dog that requires more than three meets at the shelter, we will advise you of this at your initial contact so you can plan ahead.

3. Once you’ve had your first meet at the shelter, and your chosen dog is reserved, we will ask you to complete your remaining meets and adoption within 14 days.

4. Be prepared to spend time with your chosen dog at the shelter. It’s important that you are comfortable and happy. We may give you relevant and useful literature, and you will receive a diet sheet to prepare for your new dogs arrival.

5. If you have an existing dog in your home, we will ask you to bring them to the shelter. We like to see the dogs spending time together both on and off leads, to ensure they are comfortable in each other’s company.

6. We will do a home check of your property, after your second meet at the shelter.

7. During your adoption paperwork appointment, we will be talking through your free 4 weeks Pet Plan charity cover, your pet remedy home kit, and at the end we will take your adoption fee of £250, (Puppies under 6 months £350)

8. Your journey with us doesn’t end here. We will do three care calls to ensure things are going smoothly, and we are always available to answer any ongoing questions.

Cat Rehoming Process

1. Expect a minimum of three meets at the shelter. Depending on your chosen cat, your second meeting may be your adoption date.

2. Please be aware that some of our cats require a little more time and patience and may require additional meets. If you’re adopting a cat that requires more than two meets at the shelter, we will advise you of this at your initial contact so you can plan ahead.

3. We will ensure you receive a diet sheet and any relevant literature you may need to get to know your new feline companion.

4. After your first meeting, we will ask you to go home and set up a safe room for you new cat. This could be a spare room, or a dining room for example. This is to ensure you are all set and prepared for your new cat. At your first meeting, a member of the team will ensure you know how to do this.

5. During your adoption paperwork appointment, we will be talking through your free 4 weeks Pet Plan charity cover, your pet remedy home kit, and at the end we will take your adoption fee of £115, (Kittens under 6 months £125)

6. Your journey with us doesn’t end here. We will do three care calls to ensure things are going smoothly, and we are always available to answer any ongoing questions.
